BEN KELAHAN brings nearly two decades of political consulting and government relations experience to Five Corners Strategies on energy and land use issues. Ben has advised some of the world's leading energy and real estate companies on legislative issues and development strategies for projects throughout the United States. He is a frequent speaker at industry and association conferences, providing insight on how companies can establish trust and build public support and local acceptance for their development projects, legislative agendas and regulatory changes. Ben has educated and organized local communities on behalf of his clients in a diverse range of urban and rural areas - from New York and Florida to Oklahoma and Wyoming.
Prior to joining Five Corners Strategies, Ben was the Senior Vice President of Energy for a management consulting firm, where he directed the firm’s energy practice. Ben has led public outreach and organizing strategy for clients on federal, state and local legislative issues and regulatory relief. He has also managed community affairs, grassroots organizing and local permitting on a wide variety of projects including natural gas drilling and pipeline construction, on and off-shore wind energy, mixed-use redevelopments, transmission lines, hospitals and conventional power plants.
Ben is also an effective lobbyist and spokesperson. He directed state government relations in 14 Southeast states and the District of Columbia for a major manufacturer and was the company’s representative to a special committee addressing industry specific local regulatory restrictions related to product marketing. Ben also created and directed a state government relations and grassroots initiative for the National Mentoring Partnership and served as the director of operations for The Advocacy Group, an international lobbying network. Where necessary, Ben directly lobbies local government officials on zoning matters, planning initiatives and other government decisions related to his clients’ projects. In addition, he has served as a media liaison and has been quoted on energy industry issues in national press such as the USA Today and energy-related trade publications.
